The Citroën Dispatch for firms that need to clear height barriers
The Dispatch is a medium van with a lower roofline than many rivals, which matters if your day includes multi-storey car parks, height-barrier depots or underground loading bays. If you work somewhere with height limits, that is worth checking before anything else.
The current Dispatch, on sale since 2016, is a twin of the Peugeot Expert and Toyota Proace. The Vauxhall Vivaro joined the family only in 2019. An earlier Dispatch (2007 to 2016) is cheaper but mostly falls below our lenders’ minimum.
Tell us the length, the engine and the use, and mention if the van needs to fit under a particular barrier. We will say what looks workable. Finance is subject to status.
Dispatch sizes, payload and checks
- Body sizes: Citroën’s XS, M and XL lengths (about 4.6, 4.95 and 5.3 metres) give roughly 4.6 to 6.1 cubic metres, or as much as 6.6 with the Moduwork bulkhead hatch. Heights sit around 1.9 to 1.95 metres depending on specification, before roof bars or racking.
- Payload: up to about 1,400 kg on the best-rated vans.
- Engines: BlueHDi diesels of various outputs, with a manual or an automatic gearbox, and the electric ë-Dispatch.
- Bodies: van, crew and combi versions. Crew and combi vans can be classified differently from a plain van.
- What to check: the AdBlue system, wear on the sliding doors, and the condition of any racking.
Dispatch prices and an example monthly payment
A used Citroën Dispatch typically sells for about £6,000 to £23,000, with early vans lower and recent low-mileage vans at the top. Because our lenders’ minimum lend is £10,000 (excluding VAT, after deposit), the early vans at the bottom, below around £12,000, are not eligible.
At around £17,000 with £2,500 deposited, a Dispatch leaves £14,500 to finance. Representative example: borrow £14,500 over 48 months at 9.9% APR representative and the 48 monthly payments come to £364.13, with £17,478.24 payable in total (excluding deposit and fees). Illustrative only and subject to status. Use the calculator for your own Dispatch figures.
VAT on a used Dispatch
Fleets and leasing companies sell on many Dispatches, and the invoice shows whether VAT applies. If a dealer used the margin scheme, the van carries no VAT you can reclaim. Ask your accountant about crew or combi versions, and see our VAT guide.
Hire purchase or lease for a Dispatch
Hire purchase is the usual route if you intend to keep the Dispatch for years. A lease suits crews that prefer to hand the van back and change every few years.
