The Iveco Daily for heavy loads and bodies
The Daily is the van that behaves like a small truck. It is built on a separate ladder-frame chassis, whereas most large vans use a monocoque body, and it comes in gross weights from the 3.5 tonne class up to around 7.2 tonnes. Plant hire firms, heavy removals companies and operators of tippers, dropsides and Luton bodies choose it when an ordinary large van would be overloaded.
Many used Dailys are 3.5 tonne models that can be driven on a car licence, while the heavier ones need more. Tell us early if the Daily you want is above 3.5 tonnes, because that affects which lenders can help. Above 3.5 tonnes other rules can apply too, such as an operator’s licence, tachographs and drivers’ hours, and an annual goods vehicle test. GOV.UK sets out which apply to your business.
Tell us how the vehicle will be used, its weight class and any body fitted, as that helps us find a suitable lender. Finance is subject to status.
Daily weights, bodies and what to inspect
- Weights: from around 3.5 tonnes up to roughly 7.2 tonnes gross. The first two digits of the model code usually give the gross weight, so a 35S14 is a 3.5 tonne Daily and a 72C18 is 7.2 tonnes.
- Payload: from a similar figure to other 3.5 tonne vans on the lightest versions to well over two tonnes on the heavier chassis.
- Bodies: panel van, chassis cab, tipper, dropside, Luton and box. The body fitted is a large part of the value.
- Engines and gearboxes: 2.3-litre and 3.0-litre diesels with a six-speed manual or, from around 2015, the eight-speed Hi-Matic automatic. Older automatics used an automated manual. Electric (eDaily) and gas-powered (Natural Power) versions are rare on the used market.
- What to check: chassis and body mountings for rust, emissions systems, and signs of overloading such as tired suspension.
Daily prices and an example monthly payment
A used Iveco Daily typically sells for around £9,000 to £34,000, a wide band that reflects the spread of weights, ages and bodies, with a heavy chassis and a recent tipper body near the top. The minimum lend is £10,000 excluding VAT and after deposit, so only the oldest, cheapest Dailys, below roughly £12,000, miss it.
For a Daily at about £22,000 with £3,500 paid up front, the balance to finance is £18,500. Representative example: you borrow £18,500 for 60 months at 9.9% APR representative and pay £388.33 a month, which makes £23,299.80 payable in total, before any deposit and fees. Illustrative only and subject to status. A Daily at your own price and deposit will give different figures, which the calculator will show.
VAT on a used Daily
Dailys come up from fleets, rental firms and contractors, and because values are higher the VAT can be a large sum, so check the invoice before you agree a price. A van sold under the margin scheme carries no reclaimable VAT. If the body was added after the van was built, check that the single invoice you receive covers the whole vehicle and shows the VAT correctly. See our VAT guide.
Hire purchase, lease or refinance on a heavy van
Hire purchase is the usual route for a Daily you intend to keep. Because of the higher values, you may want to consider a deposit. A finance lease can lower payments for a VAT-registered firm, and if you already own a Daily outright, asset refinance may release cash.
