Used Citroën Relay van finance for UK limited companies

The Citroën Relay for removals, conversions and heavy daily use

The Relay is Citroën’s large van, built for businesses that need load space and weight capacity at a sensible price. Removals firms, parcel contractors, builders’ merchants and converters use it, and plenty of Luton, box and tipper bodies are fitted to its chassis. It is a workhorse rather than a showpiece.

The Relay belongs to a family of near-identical vans. Underneath, it is the same van as the Peugeot Boxer and Fiat Ducato, and the Vauxhall Movano from 2021 joins them. Citroën also sold factory-backed Relay tippers, dropsides and Lutons under its Ready to Run range, so it is worth asking whether a used conversion was one of these.

Tell us the length, the weight class and any body fitted, and whether it was a factory-backed conversion. We will say what is realistic before you commit to a full application. Finance is subject to status.

Relay sizes, weights and checks

  • Body sizes: several lengths and roof heights, with panel vans from about 8 to 17 cubic metres.
  • Weights and payload: payload up to roughly 1,500 kg on common 3.5 tonne vans. Heavier chassis cabs exist, and once the plated weight passes 3.5 tonnes the licence and operating rules change.
  • Engines: diesel engines and emissions systems changed during the Relay’s life, and Euro 6 vans use AdBlue. Look up the Euro standard on the V5C before you drive into London or a Clean Air Zone.
  • Bodies: panel van, chassis cab, tipper, Luton and box. The body fitted affects the value and the lenders willing to fund it.
  • What to check: rust on arches and sills, the AdBlue and particulate filter systems, and wear on the load floor and rear doors.

Relay prices and a sample monthly payment

A used Citroën Relay typically sells for about £7,000 to £25,000. Age, mileage and body style set the price, and a Luton or box body usually costs more than a plain panel van. With a minimum lend of £10,000 (VAT excluded, deposit deducted), a Relay needs to cost around £12,000 or more, which the very oldest panel vans will miss.

Say a Relay is priced at about £17,000 and you pay £3,000 up front, leaving £14,000 to finance. Representative example: £14,000 over 48 months at 9.9% APR representative works out at £351.57 a month, or £16,875.36 in total across the 48 payments (excluding deposit and fees). Illustrative only and subject to status. Try your own Relay price, deposit and term in the finance calculator.

VAT on a used Relay

Fleets, rental firms and parcel contractors use Relays heavily, and the invoice shows whether VAT applies. A dealer can sell a van bought without VAT under the margin scheme, with nothing to reclaim. Look before you agree a price, and ask your accountant if the body has been converted. See our VAT guide.

Funding a Relay and any body on it

Hire purchase suits a Relay you plan to keep and work hard. For a Luton or box conversion, tell us the body at the start so we approach lenders comfortable with it. See Luton van finance. If you already own a Relay outright, asset refinance may release cash.

FAQs

Straight answers to the questions we hear most, on eligibility, credit checks and how the process works.

Is the Relay the same as the Boxer and the Ducato?
Underneath, yes. They share a platform, so price and condition usually decide between them more than the badge does. It is worth comparing Boxer finance before you choose.
Can I finance a Relay with a Luton or box body?
Possibly, subject to status, provided the body is professionally built and the paperwork is in order. Ask whether it was a factory-backed Ready to Run conversion. See box van finance.
Do I need a deposit for a used Relay?
There is no single rule. A larger van means a larger balance, so a deposit often widens the choice of lenders and lowers the payment, though the minimum lend is measured after it. Everything is subject to status.
Is a high-mileage Relay financeable?
Possibly, if the price still meets our minimum lend. Lenders usually weigh mileage alongside age and service history. See high-mileage van finance.
